Secret Characters

The original Super Smash Brothers had 4 secret characters; Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Luigi, and Ness. While two of those four have made it back into SSBM as standard characters, the other two have joined an additional nine to make up the new roster of secret characters. Current screens of the player select screen only allow for a total of five secret characters, so check the mockups below to see what the finalized screens will probably resemble.

Anyways, if you don't mind a heap of spoilers, let's look at the linup. Keep in mind - however bizarre and unlikely the characters may seem, I'm highly certain of their inclusion. The first four listed here are actually just doppelgangers of other standard characters, with the same attacks. For example, Pichu and Pikachu, while having different sizes and appearances, have identical attacks. The next two characters are returning secret characters from the original SSB, and the last five are all brand new.

Pichu (Pikachu counterpart)

The pre-evolved form of Pikachu, Pichu is basically the baby form of the electric rat from the first SSB. Considering his size, he'll probably be one of the harder characters to land a hit on. He has the same attacks as Pikachu, but it's yet to be seen if he deals as much damage. Perhaps he's slightly weaker and slightly faster. One thing is certain, however. His taunt is going to be ADORABLE.

Attack Description
B button Pichu shoots out a small ball of energy, that upon impact with a surface, bounces as an arc until it runs out of fuel.
Side-B Pichu rockets himself towards his enemies, knocking them into the distance with his head. The more you press the B button, the more powerful this attack can become.
Up-B Pichu exploits his agility by teleporting in any direction, up to two times in a row. He also shocks any enemies in his wake.
Down-B Pichu summons a giant bolt of lightning from the sky, damaging any enemies in its path.

Dr Mario (Mario counterpart)

Now this is an odd one. Dr Mario starred in a variety of puzzle games, where the main focus was to eliminate viruses with different colored pills. While his attacks in SSBM are largely identical to Mario's, his mannerisms are sure to be different. It should be especially interesting to check out his taunt. Also, since it's very unlikely for there to be three characters with near-identical moves, the inclusion of Dr Mario increases the likelyhood of Luigi having brand new attacks.

Attack Description
B button Dr Mario throws one of his pills, which bounces around just like the normal Mario's fireball.
Side-B Dr Mario whips out a cape (from Super Mario World) and reflects projectiles. If used as an attack, the cape will flip an enemy around, making them susceptible to attack.
Up-B Dr Mario jumps upwards, hitting the enemy multiple times and knocking out coins for effect. Perhaps he knocks out viruses instead, though, since some of his attacks look a bit different.
Down-B Dr Mario spins in place like a tornado, hitting the enemy multiple times. If the original SSB is any indication, you can also use this attack in the air to hover, depending upon how fast you tap the B button.

Young Link (Link counterpart)

Star of Majora's Mask and the first half of Ocarina of Time, Young Link has the same general attacks as Adult Link. One would assume that he's a bit faster, due to his size, and perhaps his bow and arrow attack has been replaced by the slingshot. Should be quite bizarre to pit the two Links against each other, or perhaps team them up against Ganondorf.

Attack Description
B button Young Link shoots his bow and arrow. The longer he holds the button, the longer the arc of the arrow will be. For example, if you just tap the button, the arrow will quickly fall to the ground - actually quite useful as an edge attack. This is assuming that the bow and arrow will not be replaced with the slingshot. If replaced, however, it will probably function identically.
Side-B Young Link throws a boomerang in front of him. It's faster and smaller than the one in the original SSB, and can be aimed on the diagonal as well.
Up-B Young Link spins his sword around himself in a circle, hitting enemies multiple times. If used in the air, this attack pushes Young Link upwards significantly.
Down-B Young Link pulls out a bomb, and then throws it like he would throw any regular item.

Falco (Fox McCloud counterpart)

Fox McCloud's most wise-ass wingman, Falco is known for his skill in piloting his Arwing. His attacks will be largely identical to Fox's, though he might have some additional jumping prowess. He is a bird, after all. Also, his inclusion in SSBM and his absence from Star Fox Adventures might imply that his own game is on the horizon. We'll just have to wait and see about that.

Attack Description
B button Falco's blaster is much faster than Fox's in the original SSB, and fires out a volley of shots instead of the original single blast. It's also one of the few "no reaction" attacks in the game, as it only raises the enemy's percentage without knocking them back at all.
Side-B Falco dashes across the screen at lightning speed, leaving a blue trail behind him and damaging anyone in his path.
Up-B Falco fires up his jetpack and blasts in whatever direction you push the stick in, igniting anyone in the way.
Down-B Falco generates a hexagonal shield that reflects all projectiles and knocks back enemies when it's initially used.

Jigglypuff

To the delight of some, and the chagrin of others, Jigglypuff makes her triumphant return as a secret character in SSBM. In the original SSB, Jigglypuff was widely regarded as a joke to play as. Largely because her attacks, save one, were quite weak and ineffective. And who could resist hearing her scream "Jigglypuuuuuuuuuuf!" as you knock her into the distance? The question must be raised, however - why make her a secret character if she was already unveiled in the first game? Well in theory, HAL might want to significantly alter her attacks, making her a more formidable opponent. This might be able to warrant her being classified as a secret character again, since she'd be so much different to play as.

Luigi

Another returning secret character from the original SSB, Luigi was originally almost a carbon copy of Mario. His attacks were almost exactly the same, he moved a tiny bit slower, and jumped a bit higher. Since SSBM is being released after the launch of Luigi's Mansion, however, it's entirely possible that he will have some new attacks that reflect his abilities in that game. It would also give HAL reason to make him a secret character again.

Mr Game & Watch

The mascot for Nintendo's ancient Game & Watch series of handhelds, this guy is quite possibly the most bizarre addition to the cast HAL could've conceived. In the Game & Watch games, he was just a little stickman who ran around. Perhaps he'll use some of the powers he had in those specific games to help defend himself in SSBM.

Mewtwo

Originally planned for inclusion in the original SSB, Mewtwo is known as one of the most powerful Pokémon. He uses his psychic powers to float, immobilize his enemies, and cause general havoc. In SSBM, he'll most likely rely on a combination of physical and psychic attacks to subdue his opponents, effectively becoming a amalgam of Captain Falcon and Ness.

Ganondorf

Ganondorf was at the top of many people's lists when it came to secret characters in SSBM. Luckily for them, he's included and rarin' to go. I'd imagine him to have attacks very similar to those that he used at the end of Ocarina of Time, including many varieties of energy blasts. It would be especially cool if he transformed into Ganon, like Zelda turns into Sheik, but I highly doubt that that will happen. It remains to be seen if he'll have his cape, since it wasn't included on his trophy in the gallery mode.

Prince Marth

Marth is a character from the Japan-only Nintendo-made RPG, Fire Emblem. He's a typical RPG character, with a sword and shield to boot. Other than that, though, I don't know much about him. I'm quite Fire Emblem illiterate, it seems. We'll find out more when the game comes out.

Roy

Roy's another character from Fire Emblem. Like Marth, however, I don't know anything about him. Drop me a line if you can provide any more info or screens.
